VE AC4QD & WB4IUY

Debbie and I both became VE's to found the TEARA VE Team in 1992. The team has grown over the years to become one of the best VE Teams in operation, providing testing each month to groups large and small. Thousands of test elements have been administered since '92 by this honorable group of dedicated people. You can learn more about the TEARA VE TEAM at http://teara-ve.ka4puv.com .

Amateur Extra Class Radio Operator Certificate

Debbie and I both upgraded our licenses to Extra Class in '92. We worked very hard to do this, and later decided to get these neat certificates from the ARRL to commemorate our efforts. I got my Novice in '74, upgraded to Tech in '75, then to General sometime around early '76. I had worked CW ever since, but even so, I was stuck around 15wpm. Debbie got her codeless Tech in '91 and worked her way all the way to Extra with 20 wpm CW in 1 year. Working with her helped me increase my speed, and as they say, the rest is history.

ARRL Education & Technology Honor

I received this certificate from the ARRL, and it was a surprise to me. My home Amateur Radio Club (TEARA) had donated funds to the ARRL Education & Technology program in my name, in honor of the work I had done over the years with TEARA. It put a smile on my face that can never be removed, just to know that the work was appreciated by the club that much. You can learn more about TEARA (Triangle East Amateur Radio Association) at http://www.TEARA.org .

This was for participation in a SET via packet radio. I worked with Ronnie WA4MJF in support of the RF gear used in the local packet radio network, used to relay messages to state EOC headquarters in Raleigh NC. This network was used extensively during relief from Hurricanes Fran & Floyd, as well as during several Ice/Snow storms since 1993.
