FIELD DAY

The last full weekend in June is the ARRL sponsored Field Day, and TEARA often participates. We've had quite an enjoyable operation on several occasions, with several tents and multiple complete stations. Our group is somewhat contest oriented, but they're also looking to have a good time, too!

We usually operate in the "A" category, which is all emergency powered, and at 150 watts or less. TEARA usually has a respectable score and placed in the upper 1/3 of all Field Day stations nationwide in 1994, 1995, 1996, and 1997 (excluding 1998, when there was no group Field Day operation due to other obligations of many of the usual players). The 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, and 2005 Field Day operations weren't as competitive, but were wonderful social events!

The 1995, 1996, and 1997 Field Day operations were a joint venture between TEARA and another club to the north, The Franklin County Amateur Radio Club (FCARC). There were over 120 people present during the weekend in 1995, nearly 200 in 1996, and approximately 200 in 1997! Lots of fun was had by all. A joint Field Day operation was held with Franklin County ARC in 1999, and in 2000/2001 we went out to play with our friends in Wilson NC at the WARA Field Day. The 2002 Field Day was held on the water front at Kerr Lake. In 2003, 2004, & 2005 we held Field Day operations in Wendell NC, in the city park. 2006 Field Day operations were held at the Wendell American Legion building on hwy 97. The 2007 Field Day operations were on the property of Holt Thornton AC4UD. We haven't held a Filed Day in a while, but are always open to having another!

Our Field Day operations are more of a social event than a contest. First-time operators and new licensees will find guidance and encouragement to jump in and learn the ropes.
